This world belongs to all of us—we are capable and empowered to take small, impactful steps toward a healthier, cleaner future. But, how do we do this on a global scale? EyeMed’s parent company, EssilorLuxottica, has a plan of action.
Environmentally friendly eyewear, free vision care clinics, DEI programs, transparency and a green approach to stores are part of EssilorLuxottica’s commitment to providing sustainable access to vision care worldwide while raising the bar for ethics. That’s why our mission is called Eyes on the Planet—consisting of 5 pillars and calls to action to preserve and improve our planet.
- Carbon neutrality
- World sight
Eyes on Carbon
We have one earth—our responsibility is to treat our home well and leave it better for future generations. As the world faces threats of climate change, EssilorLuxottica contributes to a global agenda of preserving the planet by decreasing our environmental footprint and working toward carbon neutrality by 2025 (2023 in Europe). Here’s how:
- Electricity: Produce and procure renewable electricity by developing a global electricity sourcing mix—designed to eventually be 100% renewable
- Efficiency: Invest in new-and-improved, frequently updated process designs created to reduce water and electricity usage across manufacturing operations
- In-setting: Protect and restore natural ecosystems—and promote the well-being of local communities by creating new jobs related to agroforestry development

Eyes on Circularity
One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Our planet is a treasure—and with modern-day resources, waste has no place here. Unrecycled materials are harmful to the earth and outright avoidable. The “take, waste, make” mentality is an outdated mindset to do away with entirely.
The future is bio-based. EssilorLuxottica is spearheading the shift from using fossil-based materials through our commitment to Circularity. We are replacing fossil fuels with renewable sources that produce fewer emissions and embedding eco-friendly design in all products by 2025.
Together, we can be the bridge for change, acting as a catalyst toward a new era of clear sight and a beautiful, clean, healthy planet. The “4 Rs” of Circularity change the narrative to “Research, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”

Eyes on World Sight
Vision is a fundamental human right that all people deserve—no matter what part of the world they live in. That’s why Eyes on World Sight is committed to eliminating uncorrected poor vision by 2050. Did you know? Poor vision impacts our planet on a global scale
Over 2.2 billion people worldwide live with vision impairment. In nearly half of these cases, the cause was preventable or is yet to be addressed.1 Together, we’re changing that. To date, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation has created 25,500 sustainable access points and 232 vision centers worldwide. Our mission is to eradicate uncorrected vision for an entire generation.
EssilorLuxottica has created the world’s largest optical network across rural communities—with over 22,000 vision care entrepreneurs who are passionate about bringing sustainable sight to developing countries.2 Over the last decade, hosting non-profit clinics has brought vision to over 562 million individuals who may not have access to eye care due to environmental barriers.2

Donate for Good: EyeMed’s signature give-back program
Making a difference can happen anywhere, at workplaces of any size. Through the Donate for Good non-profit program, companies and employees can make an impact by collecting glasses for recycling. For each pair donated, EyeMed contributes $5 in your organization’s name to OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. To get involved, click here.
Eyes on Inclusion
The power to enact worldwide change is found within our people, including employees and consumers alike. From brick-and-mortar stores to offices across the globe—every person who steps foot in an EssilorLuxottica environment is welcomed and fully embraced as they are.
Diversity is the foundation of EssilorLuxottica’s open and accepting culture that honors the individuality of 190,000+ employees worldwide. Eyes on Inclusion embodies diversity, equity and inclusion by promoting equality, taking a stand against ableism and making education accessible. This core pillar empowers employees to do their best work—with the freedom to show up as their authentic selves in a safe, supportive environment.

Eyes on Ethics
Anyone who buys a frame or lens, shops in one of the company’s 18,000 locations, or gets an eye exam from one of its trusted affiliated doctors can do so with confidence. And peace of mind knowing the best methods and materials were used, the most advanced technology was employed and the best optical care was given to them as a human being.
Eyeglass materials are sourced through a 360-degree view of supply chain operations, using the highest quality materials and applying the most stringent manufacturing and safety standards. Individual well-being is EssilorLuxottica’s business—for consumers and employees. A fully transparent supply chain makes it possible.
